Top 5 Android Phones of 2013

Samsung + Android has always been a killer package when it comes to the Smartphones. Android alone has gone way too far in beating or for that matter shaking the roots of iOS and almost decimating the BlackBerry and Nokia. Thanks to its Lumia series that Nokia has found some momentum in its sales and also beginning to see some future in its devices and our so call third ecosystem is almost decided, while on the other hand, BlackBerry still hasn’t been able to turn around its fortunes amid the launch of BB10. Anyways, we are here to mark out the Tech Wrench’s Top 5 Android Phones of 2013, any guesses who would make it to the top?

Though, it made to our list of top 10 smart phones, but was controversially placed at number 10, and the sole reason was the price tag of over 42K in India. It comes out of the box with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and will be upgraded to 4.2.2 in the future. The HTC One is a very good-looking phone but it comes under the impression that it borrowed its design entirely from BlackBerry Z10.

Tech analysts claims this Android phone is the best product HTC has ever built with a rigid aluminium body bonded to the 4.7-inch screen by a technique that doesn’t leave a single gap and with a 1080p full HD resolution and Retina display-spanking pixel density of 468ppi, which is more than Nexus 5. It’s one of a handful of phones that can be mentioned in the same breath as the iPhone when it comes to looks and build quality. It performs as it promises and is no less impressive. Its 4MP Ultrapixel camera captures some of the finest shots.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a deserving candidate at number 4. Running Android (Jelly Bean [4.2]) and a screen size measuring 6.4-inch with Full HD Display. It’s a waterproof device and weighs just 212 grams and the screen is Triluminos with X-Reality technology for ultra crisp viewing. Providing the power to this beast is a Snapdragon 800 processor which is paired with 2GB of RAM. It is running the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It is an NFC compatible Bluetooth handset to make things a little easier. Though you can prefer the HTC One over it, but for those who needs pure performance, the Xperia Z1 is the best proposition. With a big screen, there will always be issues with the single hand operations and the form factor footprint. Reasons for keeping it at number 4 are the missing LED Flash and we kept it ahead of HTC One because of it price and performance which is enhanced by the better display and a camera that is fairly competent. It is priced around 40K in India.

LG's latest endeavor in the smartphone is its G2 and in terms of both specs and the wide variety of added features LG has pulled out a pure beast. From a guest mode to automated phone answering, this phone almost completely covers Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in the UX skin. In an attempt to make a giant phone usable with only one hand, LG has come up with it G2 smart phone. Housed with a 2.26 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad Core Processor, a 13 MP Primary Camera, a giant 5.2-inch Capacitive Touchscreen and Full HD Recording. It runs Android v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) OS. The most talked about feature in this phone is the button placement. Flip it over, and there is a rather strange bunch of buttons. LG claims the new design theme has placed the volume rocker and the power key on the back panel, just below the camera to make it user friendly. This does take some getting used to as well. Price in India is around 35-36K.

Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 white

Well, that one is a tough choice, we always felt putting Galaxy Note 3 really hard to put up in any list due to it dull design factor and a fixed leather holster to its back, and prefer Galaxy S4 over it, and certainly the Samsung Galaxy S4 does deserves it over Note 3 as it is of great Android phones out there. With its 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy S4 delivers an impressive 441 ppi which is just a tad lower than Nexus 5. Its impressive 13-megapixel camera beats Nexus 5 on every ground is puts it up with the Xperia Z in terms of snapping. However, an Octocore processor would have certain crowned it the top honors, but none the less, quadcore power is more than enough to power the S4 to second place on our list, and being a Life Companion, yeah, it deserves it.

LG Google Nexus 5

Well, we personally believe that it is really hard to beat what Google has come up with this year in the form of LG Nexus 5, it was our top smartphone in the list of Top 10 smart phones of 2013, and now has also topped the Android arena, hell yeah, this beast is special and with just the camera going against its top notch specs, we still gave it the benefit over any other android devices in the market.

Compared to Nexus 4, it comes with a bigger screen, faster processor and, a better camera and also the first device running the latest version of Google’s Android OS, 4.4 Kit Kat. Google has increased the screen size up to 5-inches and with a resolution to 1920x1080, it packs 445 pixels per inch.  Nexus 5 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, paired with a 2GB RAM and is available in both 16GB and 32GB models. Though it has the same 8-megapixel camera but Google claims that it now features optical image stabilization to try and ensure your shots are a tad less blurry. Its full HD 1080p display puts it right up there with the big boys like the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z1. To our readers, its again the price factor which has along with its great specs has kept Nexus 5 on the top.
